As Kat leaves Paris and all her protectors gather around her, she realizes that through this whole crazy journey one of her most treasured relationships has been missing. Kat feels the lack of his presence as a gaping hole in her heart. She misses and longs for Amarok, she sees her promises to all her other male protectors, but wonders deep in her heart if she is being dismissive to the one man who has always protected her and put her needs above anyone else's. She reaches out to Amarok through their connection only to find he is just down the hall from her! She knows she just agreed to give Alek and there connection a fair shot, but she simply can't imagine life without Amarok! How is she supposed to pick just one of them?
Not only is her love life in chaos, but her life in General is fraught with tension. Kat just spoke with a highly gifted seer who once again affirmed the truth of her being the foretold vessel to the Goddess. Kat has no idea what to do with this knowledge, it seems like no matter what she wants, circumstances are spiraling way out of her control.
Right in the middle of all the current upheaval in her life steps her maternal grandmother who drops yet another huge revelation into Kat's lap. Kat isn't sure how much more she can take, or how this new information will impact her current situation, she has just agreed to attend a Coven meeting with her grandmother, but isn't sure what her aunt will think, but Kat has already made her commitment, so she will go meet all her new found family members, and she will just have to trust that they won't place her, or her protectors in danger.
When last we were visiting Ben, he was being drained by the starving and transitioning Yara, he deeply regretted consenting to feed her, but as he felt his life draining from him, he couldn't help but think of his mentor and foster father Falcon....he only wished he could see him one last time. When Ben wakes up on his blood soaked bed, he is being held by Falcon, and Falcon is telling him the ship he is on currently is steeped full of witches. Witches who all have an axe to grind with Taberin clans. Falcon is determined to get Ben off that ship, but Ben has severe blood loss....how will he be able to accomplish his goal?
This has to be my favorite part of this serial! As Kat takes a more proactive step in learning about her heritage, and a more adult way of dealing with all the expectations of others, she realizes that the responsibility she has always doubted she was capable of is just part and parcel of all her new powers she has gained. Sometimes the faith of others is all we really need to have confidence in ourselves; and Kat is determined not to let those who depend on her down.
Continue the addictive journey of Kat and her friends, as she learns that her father isn't the only one who gifted her with power! This is one story you won't want to miss!

Ben and Yara find her home the site of a massacre and after arranging her mother properly in her bed Yara finally agrees to stay with Ben. Yara only narrowly escaped death due to Ben's quick thinking so she finally believes he is there to help and no longer fears hurting him. They flee on Ben's scooter. Will they make it to safety? How will they get out of the country?
Kat is quickly learning powers she should not even be able to fathom for ages much less pretransition. If she concentrates and tries hard enough she is able to do just about anything she sets her mind to. Everyone is shocked and awed that her powers are growing so quickly and see it as more proof that she is the Marah. How will she handle this increased pressure to be their living Goddess? What other surprises are in store for her? Have they escaped their enemies? Or is this just the calm before the storm?
This episode really made me sad when it was over ( I know I will have to wait at least a week before I can read Dark Child (Covens Rising) Episode 5 which is the conclusion of this book in the serial novel series! I am not sure how I will manage to wait that long but there is no choice as it won't be out until then. I am a complete addict and proud of it!
